How to Backup the Windows XP Registry
Backing up the Windows XP Registry is always a good idea to do on a regular basis. Backing up the registry is useful in the event of registry corruption, spyware, adware or viruses. If you plan to manually edit the registry or run a registry cleaner, then it's also an excellent idea to back it up.
Once you have a backed up Windows XP Registry, then you can always roll back to the backed up version, in case anything ever goes wrong. We recommend that you be careful before doing any manual edits to the registry. Small edits can cause big damage.
Quick steps to backing up the Registry in Windows XP:
- Click Start -> Run
- Type "regedit" and click Ok
- Click File > Export on the Registry menu
- Give the file a name (eg: registry-xp-backup)
- Make sure the export range "All" is selected
- The backup should only take a few seconds
The XP Registry will now be backed up. We recommend that you keep a copy on external storage too.
